HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT WEDDING DAY ACCESSORIES TO COMPLEMENT YOUR DRESS

So you’ve found your dream wedding dress, hooray! Now, it’s time to accessorize. While selecting your wedding jewelry can seem just as daunting, think of it as chance to invest in some beautiful forever pieces that express your personality. Not sure where to start? Read on for our top tips for choosing the perfect wedding day accessories to complement your dress, alongside these stunning pieces from All About Romance, styled and captured by South African wedding photographer and Fine Art Curation member, By Bhavika.

1. Stretch your comfort zone
Take a look throughout your jewelry box. What type of pieces are you drawn to? What do you feel most comfortable in? Are you a gold or silver girl? Do you favour dainty pieces or love more flamboyant costume style jewelry? Let your favourite everyday pieces form the basis of your wedding day style and hunt for special pieces that elevate your signature look.

2. Ask around for heirloom treasures
Jewelry is a great way to work in something borrowed into your big day look, so let family know you’re on the look out for special items. If an heirloom piece is being handed down to you for your wedding day rather than lent to you, consider working with a jeweler to remake it into something more in line with your personal style.

3. Don’t obsess about everything matching
Your engagement ring and wedding band hopefully already reflect your personal style and the look you want to achieve for your wedding day. However, don’t get hung up on everything matching perfectly as you might overlook some exquisite items that you love just as much as your rings. For example, metals don’t have to match and you can mix diamonds and pearls if you wish. If it suits your personal style and complements your dress, go for it.

4. Consider your neckline
If you are going to wear a necklace, a good rule of thumb is to pick one that follows the neckline of your dress. V-necks work best with a pendant, while chokers and statement necklaces go better with strapless and sweetheart necklines. Whatever the neckline, the necklace should sit on your skin and not the dress. Also, take your chosen accessories along to your hair trial appointment so your stylist can suggest gorgeous looks that highlight these special pieces of jewelry.

5. Let your veil take the spotlight
If you’ve decided to go for a veil, be sure to choose jewelry that complements it. For example, a plain veil can take bold or intricate jewelry, whereas a lace or heavily embellished veil needs simple accessories. Remember you can always add special jewels when you remove the veil for the reception to create a more glamorous evening look.
